Aminologic MagnaRedz is a combination of the highly absorbable magnesium citrate as well as super fruits for their high antioxidant properties. The citric acid (citrate) that the magnesium is bound to is also has a well established role as an intermediate in the Kreb’s (or Citric Acid) cycle which is the energy production cycle in the body. Until recently, the importance of magnesium for our health was vastly underestimated because not much was understood about its roles in our body.

But recent studies have revealed that it may be as important as calcium, if not more. Deficiency in magnesium can cause a plethora of problems including inability to sleep, hypertension (high blood pressure), digestive problems, seizures, heart problems and personality changes.

If magnesium levels become too low in your body it tries to adapt, with disastrous consequences. Magnesium deficiency is caused by a number of reasons including high animal protein intake, high dairy intake, high salt intake, alcohol, sugar, soda, chocolate, coffee and excessive heat. Dependence on processed food is another reason for magnesium deficiency. Many processed foods contain enriched flour which is enriched with iron and vitamin B, but is not enriched with magnesium. As a matter of fact, most of the wheat’s natural magnesium is removed during processing.

To get maximum benefit from magnesium you must balance the intake of magnesium and calcium. The recommended calcium to magnesium ratio for a healthy body is 2:1. Foods that are rich in magnesium are basil, seaweed, agar, coriander leaf, flax-seed, dried pumpkin seeds, almond butter, cocoa and whey.
